DOWNY WOODPECKER

14-17 cm (5.5 - 6.7 inches) in length. Very similar in color pattern to hairy woodpecker, but smaller body size, and relatively smaller bill.

Hairy Woodpecker
Body length is around 18-26 cm (7.1-10.2 inches). Larger than Downy woodpecker, with a longer bill. Almost as long as its head.

RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER
This red-bellied woodpecker shown in the first three rows, whom I have named as Mr. BOE (Banging-On-Everything), would just peck noisily at everything he lands on-- And our gutters take a good beating from him. He's a clever one, because all this banging is to get all the bugs out of their hiding places in the gutters and other grooves of the house. Well... we just have abandoned our day-time napping during the summer.
